중국 구이저우에 위치한 핑탕 타운은 세계에서 가장 크고 강력한 전파 망원경인 'FAST' 기지를 품고 있는 문화 관광지입니다. 이 타운의 중심에 설치된 총 길이 450미터의 천장형 투명 LED 스크린을 통해, 칼로스는 'FAST'의 탄생 배경, 목표 및 이 지역의 이야기를 참조하여 지구와 우주에 대한 이야기를 풀어냈습니다. 밤하늘을 향해 F.A.S.T로 나아가며, 미지의 어둠 속으로 시그널을 보내는 장면을 통해 이 작품은 관객에게 깊은 인상을 남깁니다.
시그널의 메시지
"우리는 이곳에 있다. 당신들은 혼자가 아니다. 우리는 언젠가 조우하게 될 것이다."
이 작품은 단순한 시각적 경험을 넘어, 인류가 끊임없이 탐구하는 우주의 신비와 그 안에서의 우리의 존재에 대한 깊은 성찰을 담고 있습니다. 초현실적인 이미지와 함께 전파 망원경의 기능을 시각적으로 풀어내어, 관객이 우주와 연결된 듯한 몰입감을 제공합니다. 이로써 '시그널'은 과학과 예술의 경계를 허물며, 우주와 인간 사이의 소통을 예술적으로 표현하고 있습니다.
Pingtang Town, located in Guizhou, China, is a cultural tourist destination that houses the world's largest and most powerful radio telescope, 'FAST'. Through the 450-meter-long ceiling-mounted transparent LED screen installed at the center of this town, KALLOS has woven stories about Earth and the universe, referencing the background, goals, and history of 'FAST' and the region. As 'FAST' reaches towards the night sky, sending signals into the unknown darkness, this piece leaves a profound impression on viewers.
Message of Signal
"We are here. You are not alone. One day, we will meet."
This artwork goes beyond a mere visual experience, encompassing deep reflections on humanity's relentless quest to explore the mysteries of the universe and our place within it. By visually interpreting the functions of the radio telescope with surreal images, it provides viewers with an immersive sense of being connected to the cosmos. Thus, 'Signal' breaks the boundaries between science and art, artistically expressing the communication between the universe and humanity.
