이순신 생가터의 비석은 침묵 속에서도 역사를 증언합니다. 그 고요는 이내 균열을 일으키며 전쟁의 장면으로 터져 나옵니다. 칼날의 섬광, 수천 개 화살의 치솟음, 파도의 충돌과 함성의 울림이 겹쳐지고, 그 한복판에서 장군의 정신은 삶과 죽음의 경계 위에 꺼지지 않는 등불처럼 타오릅니다.
장면은 다시 오늘로 이어져, 광화문에 서 있는 장군의 동상에 닿습니다. 그것은 단순한 기념물이 아니라, 세월의 파도를 넘어 현재까지 이어져온 불멸의 상징입니다. 시간은 흘러가되, 그 정신은 결코 소멸하지 않습니다.
《불멸의 파도》는 현재와 과거를 파도처럼 포개어 놓습니다. 현실과 기억, 역사와 지금이 맞부딪히며 만들어내는 격렬한 파동 속에서, 장군의 정신은 우리 곁에 여전히 살아 숨 쉽니다. 그것은 패배와 두려움을 넘어서는 결기이자, 바다의 파도처럼 끊임없이 밀려드는 생명의 힘입니다.
이번 전시는 문화체육관광부, (재)예술경영지원센터 산하 아트코리아랩, 서울특별시 중구청, 명동스퀘어의 협력으로 마련되었으며, ㈜유쾌한의 지원과 함께 7인의 신진 작가, 그리고 칼로스(KALLOS)의 협업으로 완성되었습니다.
The stele at the site of Admiral Yi Sun-sin’s birthplace bears witness to history even in silence. That stillness soon fractures, erupting into a battlefield. The flash of blades, the surge of countless arrows, the collision of waves, and the roar of war converge into a single overwhelming scene. At its center, the Admiral’s spirit rises unwavering—burning like an inextinguishable light on the threshold between life and death.
The scene then returns to the present, arriving at the Admiral’s statue standing in Gwanghwamun. It is not merely a monument, but an immortal symbol that has endured beyond the waves of time into today. Time moves forward, yet his spirit never fades.
〈Immortal Wave〉 layers past and present like overlapping tides. Within the fierce resonance created by the clash of reality and memory, history and now, the Admiral’s spirit remains vividly alive beside us. It is a resolve that transcends defeat and fear—an irrepressible force of life, surging endlessly like the sea.
This exhibition was presented through the collaboration of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Art Korea Lab under the Arts Management Support Center, Jung-gu Office of Seoul Metropolitan Government, and Myeongdong Square. With the steadfast support of Yukaehan Co., Ltd., it was completed through a joint effort by seven emerging artists and KALLOS.
